MAY 27, 2020

Dear Summer Camp Families,

I hope that you and your family are safe and healthy, and that your summer is off to a great start. This letter is to provide you with an update on our plans for the 2020 season of Fort Wonder Summer Camps and Falcon Sports Camps, and to notify you that we are in the process of creating new summer auxiliary programming that will comply with current guidelines and that will maintain our prioritization at FWCD of student health and safety.

FWCD takes immense pride in our proactive approach to safety at our camps; by far, our number one priority is to ensure the health and safety of our camp families and staff when they are participating in our summer programs. Coupling our safety measures with a focus on delivering engaging, memorable summer experiences for our participants is a challenge that we relish. When the severity of the COVID-19 situation began to accelerate in early March, it became clear that our camps at FWCD would be challenged in new and unique ways this summer. As factors beyond our control began to increase, it was evident that our camp experience would need to be significantly compromised if we were to maintain our primary focus of proactive safety, and that the programs that we would be offering would be a far departure from the programs that you signed up for.

Compromising the safety of our programs has never been an option, and we recognize that offering substandard camp experiences in exchange for improved safety measures would not be fair to our campers and their families. In addition, the large scope and scale of our existing summer camp programs are incongruent with the current guidelines for maintaining a safe and healthy environment. With the above considerations in mind, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our full 2020 season of Fort Wonder Summer Camps and Falcon Sports Camps. For these cancelled camps, we will be providing full refunds of all camp tuition and Extended Care fees. Refunds will be returned to the credit card that you used when making your camp payment. Due to the large volume of refunds that we will be processing, we are asking our camp families to please allow 4 weeks for these funds to be reflected in your bank accounts. We are very sorry for any inconvenience and frustration resulting from these cancellations.

Please know that we are continuing to work diligently to provide memorable, enriching experiences for the community this summer! We are currently developing new auxiliary programs for July that can be safely executed in accordance with current health and safety guidelines, and while we are not quite ready to provide details on these programs, please rest assured that we will be releasing complete information as soon as it is available.

While our team shares the sadness that our campers may be feeling at the moment due to the cancellation of our 2020 Fort Wonder Summer Camps and Falcon Sports Camps, I am very excited about what is on the horizon, and I hope your family will take advantage of the new creations that will be announced in the coming weeks.

Be well, stay safe, and have a wonderful summer.
